Questions about Acid Reflux/GERD?

H.L.A. asked:

I was wondering if there are any foods or drinks that can help my GERD? I’ve had it for a few years, was on meds for it (Nexium and then Prilosec) but went off because I could no longer afford them. The problem did seem to get better because both purlpe pills helped heal my stomach over time from being on them. Lately it’s been getting worse, I’m popping 1-2 Zantac 75 every single day and they only help for an hour. So until I go back on Prilosec…Are there any foods or drinks to help? I’ve tried changing my diet, but that doesn’t work, neither does eating a piece of bread with a little water or plain crackers. I’ve also heard about drinking a little apple cidar vinegar, but I don’t know if I’d like the taste.

(I have been diagnosed with it so I know it’s nothing else, I have seen specialists for it as well. I’m just waiting to have a little more cash to be able to afford a prescription or Prilosec OTC.)
It is not H. Pylori, it’s not from abusing drugs (wtf??!) and I don’t need a colon cleansing, GERD is genetic retard… and Tums and anything else that’s coated or turns into a powder actually gives me more acid. The first time I went to the doctor’s for this he gave me a 2 week supply of Tagamet and I got heartburn from it so I had to switch to another one, it didn’t work. So far the only ones that have worked were Prilosec (rx and OTC) and Nexium…because they are PPI’s (proton pump inhibitors) and they help heal over time. WHAT ABOUT FOOD? I’ve changed my diet to an extent that I could and even eating foods that won’t cause heartburn…I still get it! So something that actually works would be appreciated…
