Ok, that seems a fairly sensible observation. Thanks for the dose of common sense.

the thermogenic benefits from my personal experience also i don’t think is too overstated. with hard training and very strict dieting me and friends of mine have been able to cut significant weight for boxing in a short amount of time, me 6 lbs over 4-5 days, my friends about 15 lbs over 2 weeks.

the reason to me it’s not good for permanent dieting is because with those of us who aren’t professional athletes or bodybuilders etc…. it’s basicaly impossible to maintain in terms of schedule and mindset. your day would essentially have to revolve aroudn eating, since you’re eating every 2-3 hrs and you’re always feeling the burn.
if you’re trying to grow muscle then eating to always be hungry is probably not good, i was thinking just in terms of slimming, that means excess muscle and fat.

I thought the thermogenic benefits of eating frequent small meals were overstated. In any case, from reading Reynold’s diet and exercise plan elsewhere on the web, I was under the impression that in order to gain muscle and lose fat, it was vital that he didn’t feel hungry. Eat enough to grow but no more.

Also, don’t bodybuilders essentially follow this diet year in year out? Surely, the only thing stopping this being a maintable lifestyle is the inherent ascetic nature of eating healthily.

lol… cause it sucks to be hungry all the time. it keeps your body burning constantly with high metabolism cause you’re always digesting.

How come? Why is it not sustainable?

that 6-8 small meals a day does work… but it’s only a temporary eating style to aggressively lean down. it’s definitely not a good way to permanently diet.

Cannot believe at all that people give this comment a thumbs down. Paris Hilton and Co. look like traffic signs. Jessica Biel looks amazing.
BTW, I do not think Jessica Biel is on 15-18% bf in that movie. It might not be 6% either but 18 is just as false.

Reynolds and Biel are clearly in fantastic shape for this film, but the bodyfat percentages bandied about by these talking heads strike me and, I suspect, anyone with even a passing knowledge of physiology, as gross underestimates based on either ignorance or vicarious aggrandisement.

Reynolds is not 3.8 % fat. Pro Bodybuilders about to go on stage might be at 4%. Biel’s estimate is even more ludicrous. 6 or 8%! Essential body fat in women is 12 – 15%. I figure he’s at 6-8%, she’s at 15-18%.

yeah, that is their job to get in shape and they are doing it for millions of dollars and plus they are given the resources. They are given nutritionists, dietitians, trainers, they have like exercise classes set for them so its really easy for them to get that body in no time. Thats why I dont understand people like Jonah Hill who has all of that but just doesnt do it…I dont know.

  23. itsabird said:

yeah it’s never practical for people who aren’nt pro athletes or actors paid to get in shape for a role to expect something this quick and dramatic…. unless you’re really really willing to commit to a clean diet. everything i read says that you don’t need a ton of exercise as long as it’s the right exercise, the diet part is waaay more crucial.

  24. King2123 said:

EXACTLY! Its so easy for celebrties to get in shape in no time because that is their job, they have to get in shape for the movie and that is that. They dont have to get up the next day early morning and go to work, they arent compelled to do that, they just work out for the movie.

Body fat % is not the only thing that improves visual appeal. There are many other genetic issues at hand. Elasticity of the skin and the access water under the skin are two main issues. Not saying that bf% is not a huge issue as well. But people with 6% bf with hardly any water under their skin and extremely elastic skin that stretches over the muscle would make it much more visible than someone with 6% bf with very shitty skin and a ton of access water making the muscles less visible =D.
